About the Conditions

Breast & Thyroid Disorders

Lumps or swellings in the breast or the neck can be worrying, but most turn out to be benign and treatable. Breast disorders include lumps, cysts, infections and pain, while thyroid disorders include goitre (an enlarged thyroid), nodules and hormone imbalance.

The key is not to ignore a lump. A careful examination and the right tests give you a clear diagnosis, so you can be treated only as much as you need, with medicines, monitoring or surgery. We take the time to explain your results clearly and calmly.

  • Careful examination and the right tests for an accurate diagnosis
  • Clear explanation of whether treatment or only monitoring is needed
  • Surgery planned to protect function and appearance
  • Coordinated care with specialists when needed
  • Regular follow-up and support after treatment

What We Evaluate

Breast Care & Thyroid Care

Two areas, each assessed carefully with the right examination and tests.

Breast Disorders

Most breast lumps are not cancer, but every new lump should be checked. We evaluate lumps, cysts, infections and pain, and treat them medically or surgically as needed.

Thyroid Disorders

The thyroid is a small gland in the neck that controls metabolism. Swellings, nodules and hormone imbalance are assessed, and surgery is advised when it is truly needed.

Conditions We Treat

Common Conditions

Treatment is matched to your diagnosis, and surgery is advised only when it is really needed.

Breast Lumps & Cysts

Fibroadenomas and cysts are common and usually harmless. Some can be watched, while others are removed if they grow or cause worry.

Breast Infection & Abscess

A painful, red or swollen breast, often during breastfeeding, is treated with medicines and drainage when an abscess forms.

Goitre & Thyroid Nodules

An enlarged thyroid or lumps within it are assessed with blood tests, ultrasound and, when needed, a needle test. Many need only monitoring or medicines.

Suspected Cancer

When tests raise concern, we confirm the diagnosis promptly and plan surgery, coordinating with oncology specialists for any further treatment.

Your Questions Answered

Breast & Thyroid Disorders — Frequently Asked Questions

Is every breast lump cancer?

No. Most breast lumps are benign, such as cysts or fibroadenomas. However, no lump should be assumed harmless, so any new lump should be examined and, if needed, tested.

How is a lump in the breast or thyroid tested?

Usually with a clinical examination and ultrasound, along with a mammogram for the breast and blood tests for the thyroid. A fine needle test or biopsy takes a tiny sample from the lump to find out exactly what it is.

Does a thyroid problem always need surgery?

No. Many thyroid conditions are managed with medicines or regular monitoring. Surgery is advised for large goitres causing pressure symptoms, suspicious nodules, overactive thyroid not controlled by medicines, or thyroid cancer.

Will I need thyroid tablets after surgery?

If the entire thyroid is removed you will need thyroid hormone tablets for life. After removal of only part of the gland, some people need them and some do not. Your surgeon will monitor your hormone levels and guide you.

What is the recovery like?

It depends on the operation. Many patients go home within a day or two after thyroid or lump-removal surgery, and return to light activity within about a week or two. Your surgeon will give you a plan that fits your own case.
